Max Boot and the Washington Post warn that, Mubarak's promises of a competitive election this fall aside, it looks like business as usual in Egypt. Something tells me this shouldn't be much of a surprise. But if President Bush is serious about reform in the region he should do more than just say "Oh well." I agree with Boot:
The U.S. should cut or eliminate its annual $2-billion subsidy to Egypt until Mubarak gets serious about liberal reform.
No point in subsidizing enemies, I think we've already got enough of those.
