I wonder what those people who believe that that it is the presence of U.S. troops that fuels the insurgency in Iraq think about this quote from an Afghani:
"The Americans are the cause of the insecurity," said Abdullah Mahmud, 26, a law student in Kabul. "If they were not here, there would not be any insecurity. The money they are spending on military expenses -- if they spent half of it on the Afghan Army and police and raised their skills, then there would not be any security questions."
This is obviously ridiculous. Afghanistan was an insecure place long before the U.S. ever showed up. Afghans, like Iraqis who cite the U.S. presence for their instability, are merely looking to blame someone for their problems. This is not something to be taken seriously, and strikes me as akin to blaming the Union Army for the rise of the KKK in the post-Civil War South.

Let's place the blame squarely where it belongs -- on the shoulders of the Iraqi insurgents and the Taliban.
