Sometimes I read things that I completely disagree with but am too busy/lazy to respond to. Fortunately often times others pick up the slack and usually do it much better than I would have. Here are a couple of examples. The first is powerlineblog's response to this moronic opinion column by Howard Fineman that is essentially little more than his Christmas wish list.
:
The second is Debra Saunders' take on Gerhard Schroeder's departure as German chancellor. The whole column is worth reading so I won't quote much of it, but I really enjoyed her concluding remarks:
During the 2004 race, supporters of John Kerry argued that America should elect a president who has better relations with European leaders -- by which he meant Chirac and Schroeder. A year later, Our Betters in Europe are losing battles with their own electorates. They're so clever, yet somehow stupid is spreading through Europe.
Indeed, to paraphrase two other products of the German education system you could say that "A spectre is haunting Europe -- the spectre of stupidity."

Along with suburban communists and the Mexican national soccer team, there are few groups more insufferable than condescending Europeans. They're the kind of people who upon discovering that you are American immediately feel the need to start explaining -- despite the fact that they've usually never even visited the U.S. -- what exactly is wrong with your country. These Loserpeans need to take a long, hard look in the mirror.

Medienkritik, meanwhile, has his own commentary on Herr Schroeder.
