Obviously this clip from The Daily Show is a joke, but I also think it makes a good point. If two guys or two women want to get married, who cares? What they do is their own business. And, from a strictly utilitarian perspective it should be applauded because of the positive impact of gay monogamy on public health.

My solution for the gay marriage issue is one that I haven't heard many people talk about: get the government out of marriage. Why should the government decide who is married and who isn't? If two people want to have a ceremony and call themselves married, fine, let them. You can choose or not choose to recognize that marriage. Let society make decisions about gay marriage, not government.
