After giving it some thought I think I have to agree with Larry Kudlow's take on the recent House vote calling for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. While perhaps initially satisfying I think it has to go down as an opportunity missed. As Kudlow states:
Why not state the resolution in the affirmative? " We pledge to deploy troops in Iraq until the mission of liberation, freedom and democracy is satisfactorily completed." And why not seek to gain as much bi-partisan political support as possible? This would truly help the mission, and the troops. He's right. This could have been a rallying point. Instead Republicans got some brief satisfaction at the expense of the Democrats -- and I'm not denying they had it coming -- but it smacked of being a politican stunt rather than a serious move. And as the lefties point out, you can take such ploys in all kinds of directions.
