Why Dems lose

You know why Democrats don't win elections? It isn't because of the candidates -- although the last two presidential contenders have had all the personality of a nutcracker -- it's because of their message. It's too liberal. Look, there aren't more Republicans than Democrats in the Senate, in the House and governing the states because of a slick advertising campaign, it's because Americans agree more with the GOP on the issues.

And you know what the Democratic response to consistently losing elections is? Move further left! Really, just go over to the DailyKos blog and check out its vow to make the centrist DLC "radioactive." Rather than being regarded as a wacko, blog editor Markos Moulitsas is considered such a force in the Democratic party that he has regular conversations with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

If the Dems could just stop trying to outdo each other for a second on whose the bigger Marxist they might actually win something. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Indeed, to see how bad it's gotten just read this:
Dear Santa: Here are ten political wishes that you can grant and make my Christmas.

...7. Get out, Joe Lieberman. The Democratic Party has a big tent but no more room for you. Either quit backing President Bush and blasting your fellow Dems, or leave the Party. You’re worse than an irritant. You are an embarrassment. Your statements seem scripted by Karl Rove. You’re not a “centrist” Dem. You are a Republican. Get out of the Party, Joe.
In case you're wondering what's he's so upset about, I have a pretty good guess. That's right, Joe's crime is supporting the mission in Iraq and not apologizing for the outster of Saddam Hussein. For that this Senator -- who has averaged an 81 rating by the liberal Americans for Democratic Action over the past 4 years -- is too conservative for the Democratic party. Some "big tent" there.

With the Democrats seemingly determined to place their future in political Siberia the big winner in all this are the Republicans. When the opposition is that bad you don't have to be very good to win. And that's bad for America.
