Last week washingtonpost.com was forced to shut down the comments section on one of its blogs after a number of liberal readers went into utter hysterics over a comment by the ombudsman suggesting Jack Abramoff gave money to Democrats as well as Republicans. The ombudsman, Deborah Howell, was inaccurate. Abramoff did not give money directly to Democrats. Rather, he directed that his clients give money to Democrats. For this mistake Howell says that she was called a "right-wing whore" and worse by readers.
Anyone who reads liberal blogs on an even semi-regular basis, or has witnessed liberal protestors in action, should be thoroughly unsurprised by this. The reliance on invective in place of logic is pervasive. But beyond the foul language and general bile one is also struck by the amount of bizarre conspiracy mongering that takes place. Seemingly nothing -- provided that it has Bush as the culprit -- is deemed too non-sensical not to merit serious consideration.
For only the latest example of this take a look here. It's simply mind-boggling. For example:
This was apparently considered by my friend to be worthy of serious consideration. This is a normal guy in every way, except he is so taken with anti-Bush sentiment that he has been reduced to reading drivel on aljazeera.com to reinforce his views.
Does this at all sound like a party, or political movement, that is about to come in from the cold? Is this a movement voters are prepared to trust with the reins of government? The answer, thus far, is no.
Update: This is another indication of what is wrong with the left.

For only the latest example of this take a look here. It's simply mind-boggling. For example:
"Prior to the events of September 11th, 2001 chief hijacker Mohamed Atta and several of the other 9/11 hijackers were reported to have made multiple visits to the SunCruz casino cruise ship off the Gulf coast in Florida. This has led some to speculate that Mohamed Atta was using the casino to launder money for al Qaeda and that possibly Atta was involved in a scheme with Abramoff and the mob to smuggle heroin."Now, some will dismiss this as nothing more than the ramblings of a few loons with internet access. I don't think so. I think that this is actually representative of much of the Democratic base these days. Bush Derangement Syndrome is a prerequisite condition to join the "reality-based community." For example, last week I received an email from a left-wing friend of mine that was a link to a "news" article on aljazeera.com. For those who don't care to read, it essentially speculates that the Bin Laden tapes are a fiction cooked up by the CIA to support U.S. policies.
