Patriotism follow-up

This is not at all surprising:
"What are you, some sort of college Republican?"

The question was straight out of left field. Here I was at a postwork Happy Hour, trying to get to the bar for another Yuengling. What could have made a random stranger assume my political views? I asked my "new friend" this very question and he replied "You're wearing a f*****g American flag pin. Only Republicans do that."
You see, in D.C. when someone questions your patriotism, it's because they're questioning your decision to actually be patriotic.

This reminds me of a Memorial Day weekend party I was at a few years ago. It was a Sunday and someone suggested that we all go out to a bar drinking. Jokingly I said something to the effect that it probably wasn't the best way to mark such a solemn holiday. At that point some chick (a law school student) turned to me and said something along the lines of "Who cares about the dead soldiers -- they never did anything worth remembering." She then went on to state flat-out that there was a moral equivalence between the U.S. and Nazi Germany.

And Democrats wonder why they have trouble getting blue collar votes.
