D.C. education

Via instapundit I saw this story, which -- while focusing on public education -- also indirectly touches on so many other things that are wrong with this city.

At the after-school mentoring program I participate in I was told about a parent who literally cried for joy after her child won a scholarship to attend a private school. How people can keep resisting vouchers and push people into these horrible public schools (the middle school I volunteer at has a metal detector) is simply beyond me.

Megan McArdle has a similar take.
