A pillar of the Obama economic agenda is the "investment" -- aka spending of taxpayer dollars -- on alternative energy. This is a pretty stale idea, with alternative energy and promises of energy independence a long-time staple of Washington rhetoric. One such effort has been ethanol. Here's an update on how that is working out in the marketplace:
This should surprise no one. After all, if the marketplace really wanted ethanol it would have produced it without government assistance. Indeed, the very fact that it required government help to be viable was a huge indication of its non-viability. Unfortunately this may also be a preview of things to come.
