Auto sob stories

Bob Herbert:
Some analysts have suggested that even if the Big Three were to disappear, the foreign carmakers would fill the vacuum, as if the cornerstone of American manufacturing — and everything it has meant and still could mean to American life and culture — were somehow disposable, like a worn-out paper bag.
Gag. That advocates for the auto bailout have been reduced to such emotion-based appeals rather than reason or logic really speaks volumes. Resorting to a sad anecdotes, which all Herbert's column really amounts to, is the last refuge of those that are unable to make the case based on cold hard facts.

But if it's anecdotes we're after, make sure to check out this article -- No Sympathy for Detroit at a Kia Plant in Georgia. (both articles via realclearmarkets.com)
