While perusing blogs this morning I saw that on intrade Hillary Clinton is currently given an 80% chance of becoming the next Secretary of State. Originally I was going to put up a snarky post about individuals I think would be a better fit for the job than her -- Mike Tyson, Mel Gibson, OJ Simpson, Hitler's brain in a jar, etc. but then thought better of it.
In fact, I'm all for it.
Think about it. It gets her out of the Senate. She has the job for four years max and then what? Runs for president against her boss? I think not. Back to the Senate? Nope, seat is taken. Seems to me she would be out in the cold.

Here's why I think this is flawed. I see two possibilities:
(1) Obama tanks and has a Bush-like approval rating in 4 years and Hillary runs against him in the primary arguing the Dems can't afford to lose the White House so quickly.
or, more likely
(2) Obama bumps Biden out of the VP slot for Obama II and Hillary gets the VP slot allowing her to run in 2016.
I thought about this but I'm still not sure I see it. Hillary in 2016 will be 69 years old.
That's a good point. Although if McCain almost did it, maybe Hillary thinks she can.
I don't know. Maybe she gave up or maybe she thinks the only way to run against Obama if he's not popular in 4 years is as the insider who tried it his way but doesn't think it works.
