Capitol Visitor Center

The Capitol Visitor Center is set to finally open tomorrow:
What was proposed as a $71 million project in the early 1990s became a $265 million endeavor a decade later. By the time work got underway in 2002, the price tag was up to $368 million. Tomorrow, the ribbon will be cut on a $621 million project.
How appropriate. This, of course, should come as no surprise to most multicellular organisms. Efficiency and government are about as synonymous as Amy Winehouse and sobriety.

Which then raises the obvious point, shouldn't we charge the government with doing as little as possible and holding it responsible for only those tasks which the private sector is unable to accomplish? Why do we run around looking for new responsibilities to give it when it can't handle those already assigned?

Just imagine the boondoggle that will be green tech when the feds are done with it.
