Buy American

Well, foreigners were typically thrilled with the election of Barack Obama. Let's see what they think about this:
The stimulus bill passed by the House last night contains a controversial provision that would mostly bar foreign steel and iron from the infrastructure projects laid out by the $819 billion economic package.

A Senate version, yet to be acted upon, goes further, requiring, with few exceptions, that all stimulus-funded projects use only American-made equipment and goods.

...The administration has not addressed the issue publicly, and sources close to the issue said it appears that a response is still being formulated.
Like they say, be careful what you wish for. And how Democrats reconcile this with their attitude of being global citizens is beyond me.

Update: Canada's Prime Minister is upset by the buy-America provision and India's trade minister is warning about rising protectionism. This is funny because I've read how Democrats are going to restore our standing in the world or something.
