Just to be clear, we're not all socialists now -- I certainly am not and never will be. But our politicians are. This isn't just Obama, under Bush we had an expansion of Medicare and the bailout of our financial institutions and automakers. And it's not as if government programs are ever put on the chopping block.
I've been thinking more recently that the idea that the U.S. is the last bastion of free market capitalism is an illusion. Really, the only thing separating us from Europe is the value added tax and completely socialized Medicine (we're already a good part of the way there).
