There are two huge areas in American society where costs have exploded relative to just about everything else. One is health care, which this blog has discussed ad nauseum. The other, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise, is college.

Rather than simply accepting rising tuition costs as a fact of life we should be making more of an effort to understand why they are occurring and the forces behind this phenomenon. But handing out money is easy, why rethinking the system -- which would upset the established order -- is hard.
