Space junk?

The international space station is expected to be fully completed later this year. It's final cost is estimated to run around $100 billion. Plans are already afoot for the station to be "de-orbited" -- i.e. crashed -- in 2016.

Money well spent?

That really depends on the fruits from the science conducted on the ISS. You can see a summary of experiments conducted by week, here: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/science/experiments/Summary.html
