Stat of the day II

In today's daily links I mentioned a Washington Post story on market-based reforms to Cuba's agricultural sector. The St. Petersburg Times, however, apparently already beat the Post to the punch with a story last month which includes this eye-opening factoid:
About 250,000 small family farms and 1,100 cooperatives till only about one-quarter of the land, yet still manage to outperform the state farms, producing almost 60 percent of crops and livestock, according to official figures.
It's stuff like this that really makes me doubt claims about Cuba's allegedly totally awesome state-run health care system.
