Pence speech

Tonight I attended a dinner at which Rep. Mike Pence spoke. A few notes from his remarks:
  • He can do a pretty good George W. Bush impression.
  • Said that President Obama had "as much success pitching Chicago to the IOC as he has pitching health care to the American people."
  • Said that "a recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose your job, and a recovery is when Nancy Pelosi loses her job." Wild applause. Remark mostly interesting in that he picked on Pelosi instead of Obama.
  • Lots of applause for stating that people are sick of "runaway spending under both political parties."
  • Speaking about the 9/12 tea party march on Washington he remarked that "the New York Times said there were 'thousands' of attendees. Fox News Channel said there was a billion."
  • Story told: After the $700 billion bailout was passed last year Pence returned to his district and spoke to some boy scouts. Afterward he talked to a few adults. One guy, standing off to the side, then approached him and said he saw Pence was going to be in town and wanted to thank him for voting against the bailout bill. He also added that he had recently lost his job. After Pence said he was sorry to hear that the man replied, "I can always get a new job. I can't get a new country." Quote of the night.
