Planes and trains

Just arrived at Denver International on my way to Sacramento. Quick thought: The distance from Washington to Sacramento is about 2300 miles. My one-way ticket cost about $120 including fees. According to my calculations that works out to about 5 cents per mile. I'd like to see high-speed rail that can do that. (For those who have forgotten, Michael Moore has wondered aloud why we can't develop a high-speed train capable of traveling from New York to Los Angeles in 10 hours. Why he thinks we should regress in technology is not at all apparent to me.
