Romanian revolution

Today's marks the 20th anniversary of the conclusion of the Romanian Revolution of 1989. Some pictures:

One interesting aspect of the revolution is the execution of Romania's communist dictator, Nicolae Ceauşescu. Ceauşescu was so despised that after his death sentence was handed out the composition of his firing squad was determined via a lottery, with three soldiers picked out of 300 who volunteered for the task. Those selected were so eager to perform the execution that it was carried out before the cameraman assigned to film the deed had a chance to set up his equipment, which is why no footage of the event exists.
