This is all thoroughly unsurprising. A leftist rabble shows up to protest incoherently about Mumia/Free Palestine/Get out of Iraq/People not profits, etc. and a violent minority sticks it to the man by smashing coffee shop windows and stealing cell phones. Absolutely par for the course. The police, meanwhile, didn't exactly cover themselves in glory, simultaneously managing to dress as menacingly as possible while failing in their basic duty to protect private property (although they did apparently manage to shoot at least one photojournalist with a rubber bullet).
But you want to know what's really scary? What really upsets the chattering class here in the US? Tea party protesters:
