Recommended viewing/reading

  • It really is amazing how well off American poor people are.
  • Alex Tabarrok explains why even supporters of government "investments" in the economy should support paring back entitlement spending.
  • John Goodman of the National Center for Policy Analysis asks what it would take to make The Cheesecake Factory operate as inefficiently as a hospital. If you read one thing today, make sure it's this. And this is another worthwhile read on healthcare.
  • William Voegeli reviews books from Joseph Stiglitz and Timothy Noah on income inequality. Interesting that Voegeli criticizes both, and Noah in particular, for their inability to articulate exactly why income inequality should be regarded as a problem. It seems to always be presented as a given with little thought given to why anyone should care.
