Back in 2000 I recall a fair number of self-described centrist Democrats and independents proclaiming how it was such a shame that W had gotten the nomination, noting that if it had been John McCain instead that they would have voted for him. I had my doubts. Now that he is the nominee it is going to be interesting watching those same people justify why they are no longer willing to vote for him.
Arianna Huffington has gotten a head start on bashing McCain and explaining why he is no longer worth voting for, largely citing the fact that McCain said he would be open to taking advice from Karl Rove. Imagine that, a willingness to take advice from a guy who ran two successful presidential campaigns. Pretty thin gruel if you ask me.
In any case I am actually encouraged by this. It is useful to judge someone by their enemies and having Ms. Huffington in the opposing column makes me feel better about the Arizona Senator.
