We get a copy of the Nelson Report here at the office. Written by Chris Nelson, it's basically an insiderish look at foreign affairs in DC, especially concerning Asia. I've had lunch with Mr. Nelson and find him to be pleasant enough, but have always been deeply skeptical of the analysis portions of his report. While the reporting is solid, he seems to be so blinded by his own political biases that I ignore his personal interpretation of U.S. policy.
:
Well, I had to snicker this morning when I read that an exclusive report that Nelson had authored for the South Korean embassy was accidentally sent to his entire distribution list. In the report he ripped on a number of prominent D.C. insiders, almost all of them Republicans. I've of two minds about this. While on the one hand it's something of a scandal with Nelson basically being caught talking trash about people behind their back, anyone at all familiar with his writing shouldn't be shocked in the least by what he had to say.
:
To me the funniest part is that apparently this report was authored gratis by Nelson in hopes of impacting U.S. policy on Korea, which he believes to be a disaster. The arrogance here is quite astounding. Rather than accepting that he is just a mere reporter, Nelson thinks that he is some kind of foreign policy player and that it is his duty to save U.S. policy from itself.
:
Oh yeah, and for those who don't know, Nelson is Canadian, which for some reason makes me find this all the more amusing.
