Conversation

So last night I was at a bar talking to this girl from Belarus and I'm going to blog about it because it's so typical of some of the people you meet here in DC:
So, what do you plan on doing after graduation [from grad school]?
:
I don't know. Maybe stay here but maybe go to Europe. Things are getting so bad here.
:
What do you mean?
:
You know, I mean, with Bush, and these budget deficits.
:
Sure, but they're going down even faster than anticipated and are still less than 3% GDP (this is honestly the kind of talk you find at DC bars). I mean, that's better than most EU members.
:
Yeah, but it's getting hard to find a job.
:
Really? Unemployment is, what, 5%? Again, better than most European countries.
:
Yeah, but this unilateralism is really getting to me.
:
You think we're going to invade Belarus, take out Lukashenko?
:
Yeah I mean, maybe, who knows?
:
*sigh* I'm getting another drink.
I swear, that's just how it is. The Bush fear/hatred in this town is so irrational. And these are people who should know better, people who should have a better grip on economics and related issues. It's just bizarre.
