Moderates

This morning's Washington Post, has the following front page above the fold story:
House Budget Measure Is Pulled: Moderates Buck GOP Leadership In Both Chambers
Lots of people love to describe themselves as moderates. It has this connotation of being above the fray, of not being one of the wild eyed zealots. The truth is, moderates are wimps. A moderate is someone who is only partly wrong. Take Sandra Day O'Connor for example, widely hailed for her moderation. When confronted with the affirmative action issue in Grutter vs. Bollinger, O'Connor concurred with the majority opinion that narrowly tailored affirmative action was allowed, adding that "The Court expects that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today."
:
This is consummate moderation. Look, affirmative action is either right or it's wrong. It's either constitutional or it's not. If it's contitutional there should be no restrictions placed on it. Only a moderate would go for the silly halfway measure and say "Well, it's OK in some instances and not in others." Ridiculous.
:
This budget stuff is more of the same. The budget measures that the moderates backed off from would have cut the budget by roughly one-third of one percent over a five year period. Yet even that is too much for them. These people are useless.
