Election fallout

Well, I'm depressed. But it has little to do with the election results in NJ, NYC and VA. NYC was a foregone conclusion. In New Jersey Corzine won by about 10 percent in a state that Kerry carried by 7 percent last year -- not sure that has major implications, especially considering how much he outspent his opponent by.
:
The Virginia results I am chalking up to the poor candidacy of Kilgore, who actually questioned whether Tim Kaine would execute Adolf Hitler if he were on death row. What an idiot. It's notable that the Republican candidate for Lt. Gov. won and it looks as if the GOP candidate for AG will win that one as well in a tight contest. When one throws in the House of Delegates results, however, it's clear the Democrats had a good night.
:
But that's not what I care about. I am bummed because anti-gerrymandering initiatives in both California and Ohio failed. And I'm not sure that either one was even close. I just don't understand how people can be against them. I can only guess that the voters were misinformed, because opposing competitive elections strikes me as about the dumbest thing possible. Even looney leftist Kos supported the measure!
:
Update: I see that Corzine's margin of victory was actually closer to 9 points.
:
More: Ugh, Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was re-elected.
:
Again: Completely agree with this take.
