Blagojevich

What's the big deal? That's the take from two people I read today, who point out that this kind of stuff is part and parcel of politics.

That's why government is such a terrible option. For some reason plenty of people have it in their heads that the way government works is that a bunch of really smart people get together and try to figure out laws that will benefit the greatest number of people. The reality is that people in power tend to be interested in maintaining and furthering that power and conduct themselves accordingly -- a phenomenon that no ethics bill will ever change. This is a prime reason why goverment should be as small as possible.
