For those that missed it, incumbent Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss blew out his Democratic opponent in yesterday's Senate runoff election. Receiving just over 49% of the vote on Nov. 4, Chambliss won with 57% this time around.
The difference? No Barack Obama on the ballot. I think this really reinforces just what a perfect storm the Republicans were up against last month with an unpopular incumbent president from their party, a political phenom opponent and a tanking economy. This tells me that Republicans lost a number of close elections they would have otherwise won such as Chris Shays in Connecticut and Andy Harris in Maryland among others. The country didn't suddenly become a bunch of socialists.
