Health care round up

  • Here is a must-read New York Times story detailing Maine's struggles with increased government intervention in health care. I previously wrote about Maine's health care problems here.
  • David Leonhardt says current health care reform efforts fall far short of reform. And Leonhardt is a guy who is inclined favorably towards the White House agenda.
  • Why you can't believe the math behind the health care bill: Congress has a history of reversing Medicare cuts. They will simply never happen.
  • Politico reports the health care debate is producing deep fissures among Democrats. And Republicans are the ones plagued by infighting?

Comments regarding the Dem infighting:
1) To those of us in Washington State, Darcy Burner is a fraud and a political idiot. She lost twice to Dave Reichert, one of the most ineffectual members of the House. This included a loss last year, where she couldn't ride the Dem wave and Barack's coatails into office. Then there's the minor bit that she got caught bald face lying about where her degrees are from. Dems should think twice before feeling threatened by her.
2) If I were a House Democrat, I would be extremely angry at the Dem leadership team there. Pelosi, Hoyer, and the rest of them made rank-and-file Democrats vote on a bill that has no chance of passing the Senate in its current form. And what did they get for their troubles? Assaults from the right, left, or both depending on how they voted. Whether it's forcing her members to vote on this bill or cluelessly blaming the GOP for the financial meltdown just prior to a lost vote on the stimulus bill, Nancy Pelosi strikes me as a political idiot as well.

I'll take serious debate in the GOP about the degree of conservatism they should take over the religious tests that Democrats seem to be forcing on their members in total disregard for the fiscal or consitutional impacts.
