DC -- Boomtown, USA

Washington, DC is one of only two cities in the US -- the other being Detroit -- where housing prices increased in 2011. While a number of factors, including a drop in crime and consecutive non-crack smoking mayors, contributed to this phenomenon, the continued expansion of the federal government perhaps looms largest.

With that in mind, I decided to take this video during my walk home from the grocery store yesterday to show the good people in the rest of the country what their tax dollars are producing. While the rest of the country may be sputtering, DC is booming. I have to emphasize that this is by no means an exhaustive list of all of the construction taking place -- there are housing projects both directly behind where I live and one block in front that were not included. These are simply highlights from a 20 minute walk.

We need your dollars America.
