The problem with the Democratic Party today is that its leadership seems not to understand the kinds of policies that will achieve those goals [of reduced poverty and improved access to high-quality education]. Instead of finding out what works and implementing it, they simply call for new government programs on the assumption that those programs will work (or, if you’re jaded, on the assumption that doing so will get them re-elected).
Intentions and results and two completely different things. Favoring the abolishment of the Department of Education or welfare does not mean that one is in favor of increased ignorance or poverty.
